The Department of Mathematics at Paris 13,
the LAGA , invites Ph. D. students for research visits in
Algebraic Topology or Mathematical Physics .
Candidates are expected to spend
3 to 12 months at the department during the period 2002-2006.
Topics studied by the algebraic topology team are
- algebraic topology, category theory, algebraic geometry (L. Breen, D.-C. Cisinski)
-
Homotopy theory, group actions (R. Oliver)
- Homotopy theory of schemes (F. Deglise, G. Powell, J. Wildeshaus)
- Unstables modules over the Steenrod algebra, MacLane and
functor cohomology (M. Livernet, G. Powell, L. Schwartz)
- Quadratic forms (A. Queguiner)
- Operads (M. Livernet)
- Hochschild homology, loop spaces (M. Vigué)
Topics studied by the
mathematical physics team are
-
non linear wave equations (J.-M. Delort, F. Planchon)
- Periodic Schrodinger operators (A. Grigis)
- Random periodic and quasi periodic Schrodinger operators, semi-classical analysis (F. Klopp)
- Quantum theory, mathematical physics (A. Abdesselam)
- resonances, trace formulas (M. Dimassi, L. Nédélec, M. Zerzeri)
Every year, the department of mathematics, in collaboration with others
universities of Paris, offers postgraduate courses on some of these topics.
In addition, related working groups are organised at Paris 13 as well as short
courses taught by researchers visiting the two teams.
Applicants are expected to have some background related to the topics studied
by the host research group. Successful applicants will improve their knowledge
and their research skills by taking part in advanced courses, seminars and
working groups organised by the teams.
There are two sessions for application, one in May for fellows
beginning during fall, one in October for fellows beginning during winter
and spring.
NEXT DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION : OCTOBER 15th 2004
This call for applications is for fellows who would like to
spend 3 to 9 months at LAGA, from JANUARY 2005.
They should include in their application documents the period they would
like to spend at LAGA.
CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY
-
The fellow must be a national of a
Member State of the European Community or an
associated state or residing
in the Community for at least the last five years. In the case of a non EU/Associated State national, he/she is not
permitted to move to a host country in which he/she was residing for
more than two years in the last five years immediately prior to the
selection date.
-
Each project must be carried out in a country other than the fellow's country
of nationality and his/her recent centre of activity. A recent centre of
activity is defined as a country where the fellow has been carrying out
his/her normal activity for more than 12 months in the two years immediately
prior to the selection. The project must be carried out in a country other
than that where the fellow normally pursues his/her doctoral studies.
-
There are certain limitations for the total period of holding fellowship
of the Community.
-
The fellow must have postgraduate level scientific qualifications: young
researchers holding a degree obtained from a university or equivalent institution
of higher education, which qualifies the holder to embark directly on a
doctorate or equivalent degree. The fellow must pursue doctoral studies
in the topics of the site.
-
The fellow must be of age 35 years or less (exceptions for military service
or childcare).
-
The project must be recognised as an integral part of the fellow's doctoral studies.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
A fair female representation wil be assured by promoting real equal access
opportunities between men and women throughout the selection.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Fellows will receive an allowance of 980 euros per month (net salary)
plus the total return travel costs.
